Aroma Diffuser Reviews - FAQ and Questions
- What is the difference between aroma diffuser and aroma atomizer?
I want to get one of those. Some claims that their diffusers are different. They are atomizers. They are ultrasonic and can release negative ion which is good for health. Is it true? Can ultrasonic atomizers release negative ion? To me, it is hard to tell ! We can't see those ion !
A Hi. It looks like you're mixing up a couple of unrelated categories. First. To diffuse aroma in a room (and I do hope you mean essential oils: Pure and organic) you can use a number of different methods. One of these is via atomizer. It does not heat the essential oil and so it doesn't damage it: It diffuses the same odor you perceive directly from the bottle. It's an expensive proposition, however. The little machine is on the pricy side, and you have to use more essential oil than you would via some other methods. But you get better therapeutic benefit, plus you can go for features such as on/off: Timing the atomization, whereby the essence will diffuse for five or ten minutes and then automatically turn off, for instance. You can also arrange for it to alternate on-off-on-off... These plug into the wall. You can also buy a little diffuser, which can be ceramic or some other material, for just a few dollars. You place a small lit tea light under the bowl, having filled the latter with water into which you've placed some essential oil. You use very little. The tea light burns a short time before heating the water to the point where the odor diffuses. You can easily blow out the tiny candle. These are safe. Tea lights go out by themselves after a couple of hours and are protected from breezes, for instance, by the diffusor. Sometimes the water gets very hot and burns off, and you have to add more with fresh oil. You should watch for this. There are electric diffusors that call for you to add drops of essential oil to a piece of paper or cardboard and then let a light fan breeze the odor into the room. These are generally the least satisfactory. The oil doesn't smell right, for one thing, and the fans are rarely strong enough. Negative ionizers are a whole other product and are designed to alter the air quality in a given interior space. I would think that if it's negative ionization you're after, you should buy a product made specifically for that purpose.

- I want to make a reed aroma diffuser, where can I buy the supplies?
how do you make it.
A I would start by checking at a craft store for the bottle and reeds. You may also be able to use liquid potpourri to make this, in which case you should be able to buy that pretty inexpensively at the craft store as well. If not, you'll want to look for your local health/organic foods store for essential oils. Generally, even in this case, you may need to pick up two kinds of oils--one the actual essential oil, which will be in small bottles, and a carrier oil such as grape-seed. Fill the bottle 3/4 of the way with the carrier oil, than put in a few drops of the essential oil. A note on essential oils: be careful when smelling them directly. Some oils, such as eucalyptus, can burn your nasal passages. You should use that nifty 'wafting' technique you learned in high school chemistry when in doubt :)
